SKINtimacy: Let's Talk About Your Skin
Let's get down to it. I’m 40 and constantly get asked about my skin. I’ll take you through specific products I use and love in future posts, but today I want to talk holistically about skincare. I’m not here to push products, but to tell you everything I have learned over the years about skincare. This blog isn’t just some holier than thou “you should do this” platform. I’m also going to tell you my biggest regrets so you can make better choices than I made. Let’s start with the ONE THING that affects 70% (I make up statistics) of your skin’s appearance over the years.
Sunscreen.
1) OMG sunscreen. If you don’t have sunscreen in your daily moisturizer, you’re just being silly. If you do nothing else, please do this one thing. Oh, and don’t forget the backs of your hands.
2) Short term tan; long term wrinkles. When my friends were baking in the sun, I was chilling under an umbrella. And I lived in Florida and San Diego for 20 years, so this wasn’t exactly easy. That’s not to say I didn’t get some sun and even my fare share of burns over the years, but overall I wasn’t that girl who baked in the sun every weekend. I see the benefits today of that decision. Tan you today is going to be wrinkly you in 20 years. Your choice.
3) My biggest mistake: for years I read that you should treat your neck and chest like your face – sunscreen, moisturizer, etc. I didn’t do that. And today it shows. My face skin is downright glowy. My neck and chest have freckles, dark spots, uneven skin, wrinkles. I’m going to have to do some “reversing” on my chest, which is expensive and annoying. Don’t be me. Starting today, treat your neck and chest just like your face and use every product all the way down. Your future self will thank you.
